Written just months apart, Schumann's Piano Concerto and Symphony No. 2 offer a vibrant portrait of a composer strengthened by love. Minasi and Kholodenko bring their musical chemistry to this program dedicated to the most romantic of romantics. The Piano Concerto can be heard as a declaration to his wife Clara, whose presence shines throughout the first movement. Encrypted messages also permeate the Second Symphony, written between periods of depression, absorbing autobiographical elements while Clara's saving figure haunts the score.
