Dead Signal

Dead Signal explores emancipation through the lens of surveillance tools transformed into instruments of resistance. Over a week-long residency, the artist collective Coaxial Point merges audio and video practices into a single environment. Centering on 4-track cassette recording, the work investigates whether the lo-fi qualities of magnetic tape can survive spatial translation or require reimagining for a multichannel field. This audio component is paired with CRT and CCTV monitors, analogue mixers, and live room feeds, creating a feedback loop between sound and image. Using an 8.2 system, the artists establish a generative link between live CCTV movement tracking and reactive sound, embedding the presence of the audience directly into the performance.
