Web DJ — Live Browser Performance

Web DJ is an audiovisual performance developed by Shanghai-based musician and new media artist Jiafeng. Using the browser as an instrument, he searches, layers and mixes online videos and web-based sound tools in real time. Recordings from different places and contexts meet across multiple tabs, forming unexpected rhythms, harmonies and interruptions. As sounds and images slip out of their original contexts, browsing becomes a form of composition. Moving between deliberate choices and accidental connections, the performance explores how we navigate, listen to and make sense of the internet—and what happens when an activity usually experienced alone becomes a shared live event.
