Renowned Russian pianist Nikolai Lugansky performs a selection of piano sonatas by Beethoven alongside works by Schumann. The programme explores the connection between the two composers, featuring Schumann's Fantasie in C major—composed to fund a memorial for Beethoven—paired with two of Ludwig van Beethoven's sonatas. Lugansky, currently recording a complete cycle for Harmonia Mundi, delves into the humor of the Sixteenth Sonata and the profound interior sentiment of the Thirtieth.
