The evening opens with Saint-Saëns’s enchantingly beastly Carnival of the Animals, featuring narration by Annie Dutoit-Argerich. The second half is dedicated to Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, a work that anticipated modern musical developments by building its symphonic journey from rhythmic blocks rather than traditional melodic structures.
