A raw orchestral night.
Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto remains one of the most inward and poetic concertos of its era. Schumann weaves the piano into a continuous conversation with the orchestra, full of tenderness, impetuous joy, and shared meaning. Pianist Mao Fujita brings a quiet intensity to this expressive terrain. Chief Conductor Petr Popelka leads the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra and the LA Phil in a second half featuring Liszt’s Les préludes and Bartók’s The Miraculous Mandarin Suite, showcasing sweeping transformations and jagged rhythms.
