Rise Against is a seminal punk rock band formed in Chicago in 1999. Known for their melodic yet aggressive sound, the group has achieved significant mainstream success while maintaining their commitment to social and political activism. Their lyrics often tackle topical issues, supporting various causes such as PETA and Amnesty International. Alkaline Trio, also from Illinois, formed in 1996 and has become one of modern punk's most acclaimed acts. They are recognized for their dark humor and catchy songwriting, which allowed them to cross over into the mainstream during the early 2000s emo wave while keeping a dedicated cult following.
