Algorave-Events in Amsterdam

Algorave is an electronic music movement that emerged in the early 2010s, focusing on the live-coding of algorithms to generate dance music in real-time performance spaces. Utilizing specialized environments like TidalCycles or SuperCollider, performers project their code onto screens, emphasizing the transparency of the creative process. The genre is characterized by complex polyrhythms, rapid tempo shifts, and glitchy textures that bridge the gap between academic computer music and underground club culture. While sonically linked to IDM and breakcore, algorave is defined by its improvisational methodology, creating a frantic and cerebral atmosphere that prioritizes rhythmic experimentation over traditional song structures and pre-recorded arrangements.
