Arab Groove-Events diese Woche in Amsterdam

Arab groove emerged from the fusion of traditional Middle Eastern music traditions, specifically maqam melodic structures, with Western funk, disco, and psychedelic jazz sensibilities during the mid-to-late 20th century in urban centers like Beirut and Cairo. Typical instrumentation features an eclectic mix of analog synthesizers, electric guitars, and funky basslines alongside traditional acoustic instruments such as the oud, qanun, and darbuka. The rhythm is characterized by highly syncopated, danceable grooves that utilize complex Arabic iqa'at patterns, typically maintained at a moderate to upbeat tempo. The mood is generally celebratory, infectious, and sophisticated, bridging the gap between folkloric heritage and global club culture while maintaining a strong semantic relationship to Ethio-jazz and Afrobeat.
