Arabesk-Events heute Abend in Amsterdam

Arabesk is a distinctive Turkish musical genre that emerged during the late 1960s, blending traditional Turkish folk and art music with prominent Arabic influences and Western pop instrumentation. It typically features sweeping orchestral string sections, the saz, and the darbuka percussion, creating a lush yet deeply melancholic soundscape centered on intensely emotional vocal performances. The genre is characterized by its dramatic, minor-key melodies and themes of heartbreak and existential suffering, often utilizing complex microtonal scales known as makams. Historically associated with the urban working class and internal migration, Arabesk serves as a bridge between Middle Eastern modal traditions and modern melodic pop sensibilities.
