Balfolk-Events diesen Monat in Amsterdam

Balfolk is a contemporary folk dance movement that emerged in Western Europe, particularly France, during the folk revival of the 1970s. It focuses on social dancing and incorporates a diverse array of traditional instruments such as the diatonic button accordion, hurdy-gurdy, fiddle, and bagpipes. The rhythm is fundamentally tied to specific dance forms like the schottische, mazurka, and bourre, often maintaining a steady, accessible tempo suitable for communal participation. Semantically, it bridges the gap between historical ethnomusicology and modern social gathering, creating a festive and inclusive mood that differentiates it from purely performance-oriented folk traditions.
