Corridos Tumbados-Events in Amsterdam

Corridos tumbados emerged in the late 2010s as a transformative fusion of traditional Mexican corridos with the sonic aesthetics of American trap and hip-hop. This genre is characterized by intricate, high-speed acoustic guitar melodies, specifically the requinto, paired with a rhythmic tololoche or electric bass backbone. While maintaining the narrative storytelling and 3/4 or 6/8 waltz-like time signatures of its folk predecessors, it incorporates urban lyrical themes of street life, wealth, and hedonism. The result is a vibrant, youth-led movement that bridges the gap between rural Mexican heritage and modern global urban music, creating a gritty yet melodic soundscape that is both culturally rooted and commercially accessible.
