Early Music Choir-Events diese Woche in Amsterdam

Early music choir refers to vocal ensembles specializing in the performance of Western liturgical and secular repertoire from the Medieval through the early Baroque periods. Emerging from monastic traditions and aristocratic courts, this genre emphasizes a cappella singing or minimal accompaniment using period-accurate instruments like the viol or organ. The music typically features fluid rhythms guided by text prosody rather than a rigid beat, creating an ethereal and meditative mood focused on intricate polyphony. As the foundation of the Western choral tradition, it maintains a close semantic relationship with Gregorian chant while prefiguring the formal complexities of the High Baroque.
