Fingerstyle-Events in Amsterdam

Fingerstyle is a guitar-playing genre where the performer plucks the strings directly with their fingertips, fingernails, or picks attached to fingers, rather than using a plectrum. Originating from diverse roots in classical, blues, and folk traditions, the genre is characterized by its polyphonic nature, often layering basslines, melodies, and percussive hits on a single acoustic instrument. Its rhythms range from steady Travis picking to complex, syncopated arrangements that provide a rich, self-accompanied sound. While often intimate and contemplative in mood, modern iterations incorporate percussive body-tapping, creating a highly energetic and virtuosic experience that sits between folk, jazz, and contemporary instrumental music.
