Historical Keyboard-Events dieses Wochenende in Amsterdam

Historical keyboard music encompasses a broad spectrum of Western art music composed for early keyed instruments like the harpsichord, clavichord, and organ between the 15th and 18th centuries. Originating from the transition from vocal polyphony to idiomatic instrumental writing, the genre utilizes complex counterpoint, dense ornamentation, and diverse historical tuning systems such as meantone temperament. Performances typically feature a delicate, non-sustaining timbre with a rhythmic vitality dictated by baroque dance suites or liturgical structures, creating an atmosphere that is both intellectually rigorous and intimately expressive. This tradition serves as the direct predecessor to modern piano literature while maintaining a distinct acoustic profile rooted in the mechanical actions of early keyboard construction.
