Irish pop is a vibrant subgenre of popular music that emerged from Ireland in the late 20th century, fusing traditional Celtic folk elements with contemporary mainstream production. Typically featuring a blend of acoustic instrumentation like guitars and fiddles alongside modern synthesizers, the genre is defined by its strong melodic hooks and accessible, radio-friendly structures. Rhythms are generally consistent and upbeat, maintaining a moderate tempo that supports sentimental or anthemic moods focused on storytelling and national identity. It occupies a unique semantic space between traditional folk and global chart-topping pop, often characterized by a distinctive vocal lilt and harmonic warmth that distinguishes it from its British and American counterparts.
