Klezmer-Events diesen Monat in Amsterdam

Klezmer is a musical tradition rooted in the Ashkenazi Jewish communities of Eastern Europe, originally performed for weddings and celebratory rituals. This genre is characterized by its expressive, vocal-like melodies often played on the clarinet or violin, accompanied by the cimbalom, accordion, and brass instruments. Its rhythmic structure is highly syncopated and fluid, shifting between contemplative, slow laments and exuberant, high-energy dance tunes like the freylekhs. Culturally, klezmer serves as a bridge between Jewish liturgical cantorial singing and secular folk traditions, sharing significant stylistic DNA with Romani and Balkan music through its use of altered Phrygian scales and distinctive ornamentation, often mimicking human laughter or sobbing.
