Liquid Funk-Events in Amsterdam

Emerging in the late 1990s and pioneered by DJ Fabio, Liquid Funk is a melodic subgenre of drum and bass that emphasizes atmosphere and soul over aggression. Its instrumentation typically features layered Rhodes pianos, lush synthesized pads, and deep, undulating basslines underpinned by fast, syncopated breakbeats ranging from 170 to 180 BPM. The mood is characteristically uplifting and euphoric, drawing heavy influence from disco, house, jazz, and classic funk to create a smooth, rolling aesthetic. Semantically, it bridges the gap between high-energy jungle rhythms and the sophisticated harmonic sensibilities of ambient and soul music, offering a more accessible, radio-friendly alternative to darker industrial drum and bass styles.
