Renaissance-Events diese Woche in Amsterdam

Renaissance music emerged in Europe between 1400 and 1600, marking a transition from the Medieval period to the Baroque era through an increased focus on humanism and polyphonic clarity. Typical instrumentation includes the lute, viol, recorder, and early keyboard instruments like the virginal, though a cappella choral works remain the genre's definitive expression. Characterized by a smooth, flowy rhythm often governed by a steady tactus, the genre employs imitative counterpoint to create a balanced, serene, and intellectually sophisticated mood. This style bridges the gap between modal monophony and the emerging tonal systems, emphasizing consonant intervals and a lyrical, vocal-centric approach to both sacred and secular compositions.
