Viking Folk-Events diese Woche in Amsterdam

Viking folk is a modern subgenre of neofolk and Nordic folk music that focuses on the heritage, mythology, and historical atmosphere of the Viking Age. Originating in Northern Europe, the genre employs traditional instrumentation such as the taglharpa, nyckelharpa, and frame drums alongside ambient electronic textures or acoustic guitars. The rhythmic structures are often driving and primal, emphasizing a trancelike, ritualistic quality that evokes a sense of ancient spiritualism and pagan majesty. While it shares melodic DNA with traditional Scandinavian folk, it distinguishes itself through a cinematic, often melancholic production style that bridges historical authenticity with contemporary dark folk sensibilities.
