Laïko-Events dieses Wochenende in Andros

Laïko, meaning 'of the people' or 'popular', is a prominent genre of Greek music that emerged in the mid-20th century, evolving from the urban folk traditions of rebetiko and traditional Greek folk music. It is characterized by the prominent use of the bouzouki, often accompanied by guitar, bass, drums, and sometimes accordion or keyboards. Laïko features a diverse range of rhythms and tempos, from melancholic ballads to lively dance tunes, frequently incorporating traditional Greek dance rhythms like zeibekiko and tsifteteli. The mood can range from passionate and romantic to sorrowful or celebratory, with lyrics often exploring themes of love, social commentary, and everyday life, making it a cornerstone of Greek popular culture.
