Greek Metal-Events diesen Monat in Athen

Greek metal refers to a distinctive regional subsect of heavy metal that emerged in the late 1980s, characterized primarily by the "Hellenic Black Metal" sound pioneered by bands like Rotting Christ and Varathron. This style differentiates itself from Northern European black metal through its emphasis on mid-tempo, melodic riffs, ritualistic atmospheres, and the integration of traditional Mediterranean folk modalities. Instrumentation typically centers on layered, warm guitar tones and prominent keyboards, moving away from frantic blast beats toward groovy, triplet-based percussion. The genre maintains a mystical and occult mood, often exploring ancient mythology while serving as a bridge between extreme metal and atmospheric gothic elements.
