Barbershop-Events dieses Wochenende in Barcelona

Barbershop music is a style of a cappella singing that originated in the late 19th-century United States, evolving from African American quartet traditions and European hymnody. Characterized by four-part chords for every melody note, the genre features a lead singer, tenor, baritone, and bass, typically performing without instrumental accompaniment. The harmonic structure emphasizes dominant seventh chords and ringing "expanded sound" produced through precise tuning. While often associated with nostalgia and sentimentality, its rhythmic flexibility and rubato phrasing allow for expressive storytelling. As a precursor to doo-wop and modern vocal pop, barbershop maintains a distinct niche through its strict focus on homophonic texture and consonant vocal blend.
