Cante Flamenco-Events in Barcelona

Originating from the Andalusia region of Spain, cante flamenco represents the vocal heart of the broader flamenco tradition, blending Roma, Moorish, and Sephardic influences. Characterized by its profound emotional intensity, the genre relies on the interaction between the singer and a Spanish guitar, often accented by rhythmic handclaps known as palmas. Performance revolves around the complex compás rhythmic cycles, ranging from the somber and tragic cante jondo to more upbeat and festive styles. As a foundational pillar of Spanish folk music, it emphasizes the concept of duende, a state of transcendent emotion that bridges the gap between raw human suffering and celebratory vocal expression.
