Latin Funk-Events in Barcelona

Emerging in the late 1960s within the United States and Latin America, Latin funk is a rhythmic fusion that bridges African American funk and soul with traditional Afro-Latin styles like salsa and samba. The genre is characterized by powerful brass arrangements, syncopated electric basslines, and dense percussion sections featuring congas, timbales, and bongos. Its signature sound relies on the interplay between deep syncopated grooves and complex polyrhythms, creating a celebratory and high-energy atmosphere. Semantically, it occupies the intersection of hard funk’s grit and the melodic structures of Boogaloo and Latin jazz, serving as a dance-centric evolution of the classic Fania-era soundscape.
