Nueva Cancion-Events in Barcelona

Nueva Canción emerged during the mid-20th century across Latin America, specifically in Chile and Argentina, as a socially conscious musical movement that blended traditional folk rhythms with poetic, political lyricism. The genre typically features acoustic instrumentation such as the guitar, charango, and quena flute, emphasizing an organic sound that prioritizes vocal delivery over complex production. Rhythms are often derived from regional dances like the cueca or zamba, maintaining a moderate tempo that supports its earnest and often revolutionary mood. Semantically, it functions as a bridge between ancestral Andean traditions and modern protest music, sharing stylistic roots with the singer-songwriter movement while remaining deeply tethered to regional rural identities.
