Spanish Reggae-Events dieses Wochenende in Barcelona

Spanish Reggae, or Reggae en Espa!ol, originated in the late 1970s within Panama’s Jamaican descendant communities before spreading across Latin America and the Caribbean. The genre maintains the traditional 4/4 one-drop rhythmic structure of Jamaican roots reggae, characterized by heavy electric basslines and distinctive off-beat keyboard skanks. Instrumentation frequently incorporates live brass sections alongside modern digital percussion, creating a sound that balances authentic roots-rock sincerity with vibrant Hispanic energy. While its lyrical content often focuses on social justice, spirituality, and romantic themes, the genre serves as the critical evolutionary bridge between classic Jamaican reggae and the later global emergence of reggaeton.
