The genre is characterized by the instrument's unique ability to provide melody, harmony, and percussive rhythm simultaneously, often featuring a distinct bellows-shaking technique for dynamic expression. Tempos vary significantly across styles like the upbeat polka or the emotive waltz, yet the mood consistently leans toward either festive communal celebration or poignant, soulful nostalgia. Semantically, it serves as the foundational texture for regional genres such as zydeco, tango, and musette, often acting as a bridge between traditional ethnic heritage and modern popular arrangement.
