Humppa-Events in Berlin

Originating in Finland during the early 20th century, Humppa is a fast-paced social dance music evolved from jazz and foxtrot. The genre is characterized by a vigorous 2/4 time signature and a distinctive 'ump-pah' rhythm, often performed at a brisk tempo that encourages energetic physical movement. Typical instrumentation features the accordion, tuba, and drums, creating a bright and jovial atmosphere that bridges folk traditions with ballroom dance. While sharing a rhythmic lineage with polka, Humppa remains a distinct cultural phenomenon celebrated for its infectious, bouncing cadence and its later influence on Finnish folk-metal fusion.
