Jangle Pop-Events in Berlin

Jangle pop emerged in the mid-1960s with folk-rock pioneers like The Byrds and experienced a significant revival in the 1980s via the American college rock and British indie scenes. Characterized by the prominent use of chiming, treble-heavy electric guitars—most notably the Rickenbacker twelve-string—the genre emphasizes clean, arpeggiated melodies over heavy distortion. Rhythmic structures are typically steady and mid-tempo, supporting a mood that oscillates between upbeat sunshine and bittersweet nostalgia. Semantically rooted in the intersection of 1960s pop-rock and 1980s post-punk, it serves as a foundational precursor to modern indie pop by prioritizing melodic hooks and lyrical earnestness over aggressive rock textures.
