Japanese Jazz-Events diese Woche in Berlin

Japanese jazz, often referred to as J-Jazz, emerged during the post-WWII era under the heavy influence of American occupation forces and evolved into a sophisticated global movement by the 1970s. This genre typically utilizes standard jazz instrumentation like the piano, upright bass, and saxophone, while frequently incorporating traditional Japanese instruments or sleek electronic textures. Characterized by meticulous technical precision, it expertly balances high-energy hard bop with mellow, atmospheric modal compositions to maintain a distinct sense of urban elegance. While deeply rooted in Western traditions, it distinguishes itself through unique melodic sensibilities and incredibly high production craftsmanship, bridging the gap between classic bebop and modern fusion.
