Liedermacher-Events dieses Wochenende in Berlin

Liedermacher is a distinct German-language genre that emerged in the mid-20th century, heavily influenced by the French chanson tradition and the American folk music revival. The genre typically features a solo performer accompanied by an acoustic guitar or piano, emphasizing poetic, socio-critical, or deeply personal lyrical content over complex production. Its rhythm is often flexible and rubato, mirroring the natural cadence of speech, while the tempo remains moderate to slow to ensure the message remains the focal point. Semantically, it serves as the German equivalent to the singer-songwriter movement, bridging the gap between traditional folk balladry and contemporary political protest music.
