Swing Music-Events in Berlin

Emerging in the United States during the late 1920s and peaking in the 1930s, swing music is a rhythmic jazz subgenre defined by its unique swing feel, which emphasizes off-beat, triplet-based subdivisions. Predominantly performed by big bands consisting of brass, woodwinds, and a rhythm section, the genre maintains a steady four-to-the-bar pulse designed to facilitate social dancing in large ballrooms. Its mood is characterized by an infectious, sophisticated exuberance that transitioned jazz from small-group improvisation to mainstream commercial popularity. This genre acts as a critical stylistic bridge between traditional hot jazz and the subsequent development of jump blues and early rock and roll.
