Turkish Jazz-Konzerte und Live-Shows in Berlin

Turkish jazz represents a sophisticated mid-20th-century fusion that integrates American improvisational frameworks with the rich melodic and rhythmic traditions of Anatolian folk and Ottoman classical music. Typical instrumentation pairs standard jazz ensembles—including piano, saxophone, and double bass—with traditional regional instruments such as the oud, kanun, and ney. The genre is defined by its use of the makam modal system and complex aksak time signatures, frequently employing odd meters like 5/8 or 9/8 instead of standard Western swing. This synthesis creates a mood that shifts between deep, contemplative melancholy and vibrant, polyrhythmic energy, positioning the genre as a unique cultural dialogue between Eastern Mediterranean heritage and global jazz movements.
