Rai-Events dieses Wochenende in Bordeaux

Raï is an influential folk music genre that originated in Oran, Algeria, during the early 20th century before evolving into a globally recognized pop-fusion style in the 1970s. Characterized by its blend of traditional Bedouin instruments like the gasba and darbouka with modern synthesizers, drum machines, and electric guitars, the genre typically maintains a moderate tempo with syncopated, danceable rhythms. The mood is often defined by its rebellious spirit and soulful, emotional vocal delivery that addresses social issues, longing, and everyday life. Semantically, Raï bridges the gap between North African folk traditions and Western pop, rock, and disco, serving as a primary cultural expression for North African youth.
