Synthpop-Events in Bukarest

Synthpop emerged in the late 1970s and peaked during the 1980s as a subset of new wave, characterized by the replacement of traditional rock instruments with synthesizers and drum machines. Often rooted in the experimentalism of Krautrock and the danceability of disco, the genre features precise four-on-the-floor rhythms, sequenced basslines, and polished, radio-friendly production. While early iterations frequently conveyed a detached or futuristic mood, the style eventually embraced pop sensibilities, blending melancholic lyrics with upbeat, melodic arrangements that define its enduring commercial appeal. This electronic evolution bridged the gap between avant-garde minimalism and mainstream success, establishing a template for modern electropop and contemporary dance music through its focus on digital textures and catchy hooks.
