Samba-Events in Fort Lauderdale

Samba is a vibrant musical genre and dance style originating in the Afro-Brazilian communities of Rio de Janeiro during the early 20th century. Characterized by its infectious 2/4 rhythm and deep syncopation, the genre primarily utilizes percussive instruments such as the surdo, tamborim, and cuíca, often accompanied by the cavaquinho and acoustic guitar. Its high-energy, celebratory mood is synonymous with the Brazilian Carnival, though it maintains a complex relationship with its predecessor, the maxixe, and its sophisticated descendant, bossa nova. The genre's rhythmic structure emphasizes the second beat of each measure, creating a driving momentum that dictates its immense physical danceability and cultural prominence as Brazil's national musical identity.
