Baltic Folk-Konzerte und Live-Shows in Kaunas

Emerging from the distinct ethno-linguistic traditions of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, Baltic folk music is defined by its deep connection to ancient oral poetry and the natural landscape. Traditional instrumentation centers on the Baltic psaltery—the kannel, kokles, and kanklės—alongside bagpipes, whistles, and violins that support polyphonic vocal arrangements like the Latvian dainas or Estonian regilaul. Rhythms are often dictated by the prosody of the regional dialects, resulting in a sound that ranges from meditative, drone-heavy laments to energetic, communal circle dances. This genre serves as a cultural foundation for Baltic neofolk and contemporary choral movements while maintaining a stoic, earthy mood that reflects the historical resilience of the Baltic people.
