Canzone D'autore-Events in Lissabon

Canzone d'autore, meaning "song of the author," emerged in Italy during the 1960s as a sophisticated fusion of literary poetry and folk-inspired music. Influenced heavily by French chanson and American folk-rock, the genre prioritizes the lyrical depth and social commentary of the individual artist, often accompanied by acoustic guitar, piano, or orchestral arrangements. Rhythms are typically moderate and flexible, allowing the vocal delivery to mirror the cadence of spoken poetry, while the mood ranges from introspective melancholy to sharp political satire. It serves as the Italian counterpart to the global singer-songwriter movement, bridging the gap between traditional melodic pop and high art through its focus on intellectual expression and narrative storytelling.
