Coupé Décalé-Events in London

Coupé Décalé is an energetic and highly danceable music genre that originated in the early 2000s among the Ivorian diaspora in Paris, before quickly spreading to Côte d'Ivoire and across West Africa. Characterized by its fast tempos, driving electronic beats, and often syncopated rhythms, it typically features synthesizers, drum machines, and sometimes incorporates traditional African percussion samples. The genre's mood is predominantly celebratory and festive, often associated with themes of wealth, success, and showing off, known as "farot-farot." It draws influences from Zouk, Soukous, and various electronic dance styles, establishing itself as a distinct and influential force in contemporary African popular music.
