Dark Wave-Events in London

Dark wave is a musical genre that emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a somber evolution of post-punk and new wave, characterized by its introspective and melancholic mood. The instrumentation typically blends electronic synthesizers and drum machines with traditional post-punk elements like atmospheric electric guitars and prominent, often baritone, vocals. Rhythmically, the genre oscillates between steady, driving pulses and more experimental, ethereal patterns, maintaining a moderate tempo that supports its gloomy aesthetic. Semantically, dark wave serves as a critical bridge between the raw energy of gothic rock and the polished textures of synth-pop, eventually influencing the development of industrial and ethereal wave subcultures.
