Dhrupad-Events diesen Monat in London

Dhrupad represents the oldest surviving form of Hindustani classical music, tracing its spiritual roots back to the Vedic chants of the Samaveda. Characterized by an austere and meditative mood, the genre typically features a solo vocalist or instrumentalist accompanied by the resonant drone of the tanpura and the deep, barrel-shaped pakhawaj drum. Performances strictly adhere to a four-part structure—Alap, Jor, Jhala, and the composed Dhrupad—emphasizing microtonal precision and breath control over florid ornamentation. As a foundational pillar of Indian art music, it maintains a formal, sacred relationship to the more decorative Khayal style, prioritizing rhythmic complexity within slow to moderate tempos to evoke a sense of timeless tranquility.
