Emocore-Events in London

Emocore, or emotional hardcore, emerged in the mid-1980s within the Washington D.C. hardcore punk scene as a reaction against the genre's increasingly rigid and aggressive stylistic boundaries. It features a sonic palette of melodic guitar arpeggios, sudden shifts into distorted power chords, and dynamic percussion that supports introspective, deeply personal lyrics. The genre is characterized by its high emotional intensity and cathartic vocal performances, which often transition from soft spoken-word sections to visceral screams. Functioning as a bridge between traditional punk and the more polished emo-pop of the late 1990s, emocore maintains a raw, DIY production aesthetic while emphasizing melodic sensitivity and vulnerability.
