Glam Punk-Events in London

Emerging in the early 1970s as a precursor to mainstream punk rock, glam punk blends the theatrical artifice of glam rock with the raw, aggressive energy of garage rock. Typically featuring distorted electric guitars, driving basslines, and rhythmic patterns inspired by early rock and roll, the genre maintains an upbeat tempo and a swaggering, danceable groove. Its mood is characterized by a decadent and rebellious spirit, often utilizing gender-bending aesthetics and flamboyant performance styles to challenge societal norms. Semantically, it serves as a critical bridge between the polished production of 1950s pop and the nihilistic grit of the late-1970s punk explosion, exemplified by pioneering bands like the New York Dolls.
