Hauntology-Events in London

Emerging in the early 2000s via labels like Ghost Box, hauntology is a genre centered on the aesthetic of cultural memory and the "lost futures" of mid-century modernism. Its sonic palette relies heavily on analog synthesizers, tape loops, and sampled fragments from vintage public information films or library music, creating a distinctly eerie and nostalgic atmosphere. Rhythms are typically slow and unstable, often mimicking the mechanical imperfections of decaying magnetic tape to evoke a sense of the uncanny. While it shares conceptual space with vaporwave and ambient music, hauntology specifically explores the melancholy of the British post-war era and its lingering, ghostly influence on the present.
