Lo Fi Indie-Events in London

Lo-fi indie is a subgenre of alternative music that emerged in the late 1980s as a rejection of polished studio standards, favoring a DIY ethos and home-recording techniques. Typical instrumentation features jangly guitars, simple drum patterns, and occasional analog synthesizers, often processed through four-track recorders to achieve a grainy, unrefined texture. The genre typically maintains mid-to-slow tempos and evokes a vulnerable, introspective mood that prioritizes raw emotional expression over commercial gloss. It shares a close semantic relationship with indie rock and bedroom pop, acting as a bridge that celebrates sonic flaws like tape hiss and vocal distortion as key aesthetic markers.
