Modern Funk-Events in London

Modern funk is a contemporary revivalist movement that emerged in the late 2000s, drawing heavy inspiration from the boogie, post-disco, and P-funk styles of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The genre is characterized by its reliance on vintage analog synthesizers, groovy electric basslines, and the signature use of the talkbox, often blended with programmed drum machine patterns. Musically, it maintains a mid-tempo, syncopated rhythm designed for dancefloors, projecting a vibrant, nocturnal, and celebratory mood. While it shares the rhythmic DNA of traditional funk, it distinguishes itself through a sleeker, electronic-focused production aesthetic that bridges the gap between classic soul and modern electronic dance music.
