Nordic Folk-Events dieses Wochenende in London

Nordic folk music encompasses the rich traditional musical heritage of Scandinavia, Iceland, and Finland, primarily evolving from centuries of oral storytelling and communal dance practices. It is characterized by unique instrumentation such as the Swedish nyckelharpa, the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, and the Finnish kantele, which collectively provide its distinctively resonant and often modal sound. The rhythm frequently utilizes asymmetric meters like the polska, while the mood oscillates between hauntingly melancholic drones and vigorous, foot-stomping dance energy. Semantically, it serves as the foundational root for contemporary Neofolk and shares structural commonalities with Celtic traditions while maintaining a stark, atmospheric connection to the rugged northern landscape.
