Old Time-Events in London

Old-time music is a foundational North American folk genre that emerged from the cultural melting pot of the Appalachian Mountains, blending African banjo traditions with European fiddle melodies. This acoustic-driven style typically features an ensemble of fiddle, banjo, guitar, and upright bass, characterized by a driving, rhythmic quality often utilized for square dancing. Unlike its successor, bluegrass, old-time prioritizes a communal, melody-focused sound where instruments play in unison rather than taking individual improvisational solos. The mood ranges from high-energy rhythmic stomps to somber, high lonesome ballads, maintaining a raw and unpolished aesthetic that distinguishes it from commercialized country music while serving as a primary ancestor to modern bluegrass.
