Proto Punk-Events in London

Emerging in the late 1960s and early 1970s, proto-punk serves as the crucial aesthetic and sonic bridge between the garage rock revival and the definitive punk rock explosion of 1977. This movement is characterized by a raw, unrefined approach to rock and roll, utilizing distorted electric guitars, aggressive drum patterns, and often confrontational vocal deliveries. While it retains the structures of traditional rock, it strips away the polished production and progressive complexity of the era's mainstream acts, favoring a high-energy, DIY ethos. Proto-punk significantly influenced the development of alternative rock and post-punk, embodying a spirit of rebellion and sonic experimentation that challenged the commercial standards of the recording industry at the time.
